My Darling Bazil

Bazil as a handsome young dog

Bazil as a handsome young dog Now enjoying his retirement!

Bazil is now in his 15th year. He came to me when he was 3 years old, rescued from a family whose children were abusing him.

When he first arrived he was very emotionally disturbed but I worked hard and he learned to trust. He has given such love during his life. When he was younger he was a simply stunning boy. He's a Collie cross German Shepherd and had a lust for life. He loves his ball - but hates the vet with a vengeance. I've been very lucky that he has been a particularly healthy dog throughout his life so he hasn't had to endure visits to the vet very often.

He's now starting to slow down but, with age, comes a very special time that we share. He's been with me through all of life's ups and downs;
he's been my faithful friend and I love him dearly. He's very spoiled - but deserves to be as he is truly a fantastic boy!

I hope to have a few more years with my wonderful friend. He's not ready to go to rainbow bridge just yet. We still have many adventures to go on before then.

I hope you like the photographs of him.

RIP Bazil
by: Annie

I'm sorry to have to tell you that my beloved Bazil passed away on 10th May this year 2013. He had been going downhill and I had to make the decision to let him go peacefully when his heart started failing. I knew he had had enough...he told me. He had a lovely bed in the livingroom made up with lots of duvets and fleecey blankets. We all sat round with a bowl of chicken and had a little picnic before I called the vet. The vet came to the house and my precious boy passed on peacefully in my arms. I miss him terribly but I know he had a wonderful life with me and his friends. So sorry to have to tell you about my darling boy passing. I will love him forever.

Update on my handsome boy!
by: Annie

Hi everybody

Bazil was sick the other night. I've been giving him a small meal before bedtime as he was bringing up bile if too long between meals. The other day I noticed what looked to be coffee grounds to made an appointment at the vet. This can often highlight a stomach bleed. I was worried; he has been breathing harder and panting of late. We got to the vet for an examination. The vet couldn't believe he was almost 15 years old. He has a slight heart murmur but his heart is beating slowing and he has a strong pulse. Nothing wrong there. He thinks it's a stomach irritation..he'd been on metacam for his sore hips. He's off the metacam for the timebeing and now on Zantac for a couple of week to clear up his tummy. Funnily enough I've had a stomach irritation too so we're both on Zantac. He was out today running for his ball. I wish I could upload more pics as I have some lovely ones of him playing today. Lovely old boy that he is. He's been flat out the rest of the day sleeping...only surfaced for dinner.
